SAM.gov is essential — and exhausting to search
If you pursue federal work, SAM.gov is unavoidable: it is the official system where you register your business to bid. The trouble starts when you try to use it as a discovery tool. The search returns enormous, undifferentiated lists, the filters are blunt, and there is no concept of "this fits my business and that does not."
So contractors do one of two things. They run a few saved searches and skim the results when they remember to, missing plenty in between. Or they give up on monitoring entirely and only bid the opportunities that happen to find them. Either way, the firehose wins and good federal work goes unbid.
